Paint chips. Not just for home renovation anymore.

 

If you've ever painted a room, you've taken a trip to the paint store or Do-it-Yourself store. There you found a wall full of paint chips to help you decide what color to paint your room. A paint chip is simply a small example of colors to help you decide what color you may want to use. But, can the paint chip be used for more? Yes, it can!

If you’re like me, you look at the rainbow of colors and think about so many craft possibilities. You can find many ideas on ways to use paint chips for your crafts. Simply search for “paint chips diy” or “paint sample art” and you’ll find lots of ideas. Today, I’m going to share a few of the ways that I’ve used paint chips in my craft projects. 

Idea #1: Journal card

Before I travel I create a travel journal and add items that can be used while I’m on my trip. That’s where paint chips come in. I recently went to Italy - long before COVID - and I  had a pink paint chip in my journal. I love the color pink, and I thought I might find a way to use this in my journal. During my trip we took a cab ride. My group was put in the “Pink Barbie” cab. Bingo! That’s what I’m going to use my pink paint chip for. I put a title on the front and added some scrapbook paper on the back along with pictures of the cab and my family. Voila...paint chip as a journal card. Bonus idea: you can easily write directly onto the paint chip and include information about the picture on the back.

Idea #2: Photo mat

On another trip I used paint chips as mats for my photos.  The paint chips I used were smaller in size and the images from my Canon Ivy worked great.

Idea #3: Shapes and letters

I recently fell in love with my Big Shot again. I found all kinds of dies that I forgot I had. I used some of the shapes with my paint chips to create items for my journal. A simple pop of color. The shapes can be used on cards, scrapbook pages, or even in your bible. Bonus idea: don’t forget to use the leftovers as well.

Use the paint chips to create letters for your crafts. Use the letters wherever you would use sticker letters - cards, journals, scrapbooks. Many paint chips have various versions of the same color. Try creating an Ombre effect with your word.

Bonus Idea: Reusable planner bookmark

Here’s a bonus idea. Take a paint chip strip. Write the days of the week on it and laminate it. Use a write on/wipe off marker to add meals or weekly to dos that you can easily see.
